What is a rotational program?
A rotational program invites new grads as paid, full-time employees for one to two years (depending on the program) to join a company and rotate through departments and projects across different disciplines. These programs are sometimes referred to as Leadership Development programs, because the scaffolded, structured experience often builds leadership skills in addition to industry skills. The grads hired for these programs usually come out with a full-time position in their favorite discipline from their rotations.
In addition to a job offer post the program, here are some benefits to starting your career with a rotational program:
Explore different disciplines and career fields within a company. This is great if you’re still trying to figure out what you want to do right out of college.
Build a community with the cohort you start your program with. This is especially helpful when you’re just starting out in a new city and want to find folks your age!
Tons of opportunities for career growth through networking events and professional development workshops designed for the rotational program employees.
There is a natural checkpoint at the end of the program to reflect on your experience and re-evaluate your interests. If you find yourself craving more of the program, you can choose to stay at the company in your favorite discipline! If not, this is a great time to seek other opportunities.
Below is a list of some rotational programs to consider. There are many Olin alumni who are or have been a part of rotational programs. Reach out to PGP for more information!
